Le double belvédère, Common shelters, Barneville Carteret
At the invitation of Nadine Gandy from the Gandy Gallery for Common Shelters, I proposed this temporary structure to create a place on the coast where people could relax.
First, there is a wind-protected area, flush with the ground, where people can gather and spend time together.
The wooden pallets – a constraint of the commission – are fixed diagonally to form a protective roof on either side.
A convivial space sheltered from the wind.
Then we discover two belvederes to look out over the town of Carteret on the left and Hatainville beach on the right. Two raised spaces to escape from everyday life and open up to the landscape.
Two platforms to inhabit the view. The pallets then form frames in which a smaller number of people can sit to enjoy the landscape, soak up the place and become almost native to it, as if attempting to repopulate the site.
From the bottom of the cliff, the two lookout points form two eyes, a benevolent presence that watches over and, like a protector, watches over the future of the sea.
The platform was temporarily installed on Cape Carteret and will then be moved to the garden of the Salle du Parc (former Carteret town hall).
