Territoire & territoire intime, Alessi

2014

With the "Territoire" project, matali crasset presents  for Alessi two trays in different sizes and colours, with the aim of creating a play of colour and composition left to one’s personal taste and preferences. "Territoire", the larger tray in the shape of an irregular hexagon and "Territoire intime," the smaller pentagon-shaped piece, are made of polished 18/10 stainless steel and coloured steel. The choice of colour is deliberate and dictated by the designer: Yellow Sand for the hexagon-shaped piece, Terracotta for the pentagonal version. The "Territoire" and "Territoire intime" trays can be showcased on their own or paired together to create a vibrant combination of lines and geometric surfaces.

“My inspiration was a belt, like a coastal belt.

A belt determines where it can be placed,

A raised belt allows the tray to be handled,

A winding belt like an irregular realm, life having patterned its path.

A cosy, warm, watchful and ethereal realm in a neutral and numbing metal realm.

A realm for valued objects, those we want to highlight, those which confirm our personality.

An orange realm to glorify household rituals.

An overall realm to gather more in a more informal manner.

A symbolic realm in a functional realm.

A realm for the indoors, the private home, an outdoor realm for dinners on the terrace.

Two trays, two worlds hidden in the dark corners.”
